Autumn playground maintenance: prepare for the next season

Use the end of a busy season to organise observations and plan improvements, not to replace year-round care.

Keep the regular inspection plan

A seasonal review supplements ongoing inspection and maintenance. Follow equipment instructions and the applicable requirements for the actual site. PN-EN 1176-7 covers installation, inspection and operation guidance. Confirm who maintains records and where manuals are stored, especially after a change of operator staff.

Observe the surface after rain

Map persistent water, leaf accumulation and contamination. Record the precise location with a wider photograph and a detail image. Follow the relevant surface’s cleaning instructions; pressure, heat or strong chemicals are not universally suitable. Ask for confirmation before using an unspecified method.

Document equipment observations

Walk a fixed route through entrance, equipment, paths, seating and signage. Record model codes or clear locations. Refer technical questions to a competent person. Avoid improvised changes to structures or use; agree repairs with the appropriate party and retain the work record.

Turn notes into actions

Separate matters needing prompt assessment, routine care and future improvements. Assign an owner, next step and closure record. Safety questions must not sit in the same queue as cosmetic choices. Record which activities and routes worked well to inform the next design brief.

Plan future supplies early

For improvements, send a plan, photographs and retained features before the next season. For surfacing materials, include the installer-agreed solution and affected areas. Safe Ground can help organise equipment, concept design and material supply. Existing-product enquiries should identify the actual model and delivery documents.

Before your next step

  • Collect instructions and records.
  • Observe after rain.
  • Locate and identify issues.
  • Separate assessment, care and improvement.

Practical questions

How do observations become a refurbishment enquiry?

Send the current plan, photographs and notes distinguishing retained features from proposed changes. Describe users and priority activities. For surfacing materials, identify the solution agreed with the installer. Separate cleaning from questions needing technical assessment: tidying does not replace an appropriate inspection. The operator should know which questions need a specialist. A focused enquiry makes staged improvements easier without replacing functioning equipment simply because a season has ended. Good records help define concrete options and the order of further work.
